MoBay firms suffer as cruise ship arrivals drop
The Montego Bay business community has lamented the closure of a number of commercial operations, which it has blamed on a decline in cruise ship arrivals to the Second City. $8-m upgrade! - Conditions at Falmouth transport centre to improve
CHAIRMAN of the Trelawny Parish Council, Mayor Colin Gager says some $8 million will be spent over the next few months to improve the existing conditions at the Falmouth transport centre.

Cruise ship captain expresses dissatisfaction with Montego Bay port
Giovanni Cutugno, the captain of Carnival Magic, the largest vessel of the Carnival Cruise Lines is urging the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) to undertake the necessary works at the Montego Bay port in a bid to make it more accessible to large vessels.

"It would be very nice to have something done to make the port a little cleaner in certain corners and whatever can be done in the channels because with a wind that can reach 25 knots of gust, it is a challenge. In other words we cannot come in," lamented Cutugno. Read more

Jamaica records third consecutive quarter of growth
Though weaker than expected, Jamaica recorded a third consecutive quarter of growth as it continues to recover from the global recession.

The economy grew by half per cent for the quarter July to September 2011, this after posting growth of 1.6 and 2.1 per cent for the first two quarters said Gladstone Hutchinson, director general of the Planning Institute of Jamaica. Previously, the country had 13 consecutive quarters, over three years, of negative growth. Read more
